Arab Health 2023

The Ministry of Health and Prevention will participate in Arab Health 2023, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, from 30 January to 2 February 2023.

The four-day conference brings together healthcare industry leaders and innovators, providing a platform to showcase their latest innovative products, systems, services, and medical devices, as well as share their future vision for the healthcare technology.

This year, the Ministry of Health and Prevention presents a slew of pioneering projects that align with the government initiatives that focus on investing in the latest innovations and technologies to improve the quality of smart healthcare services in the country. These projects include:

Connecting 'Riayati' platform with ‘Nabidh’ and ‘Malaffi’

The e-link project connects the digital healthcare platform ‘Riayati,’ Abu Dhabi health information exchange platform ‘Malaffi,’ and Dubai health information exchange platform ‘Nabidh’ into one national platform that provides data analysis as a tool to improve the quality of healthcare.

Digitalizing health records into one platform simplifies data sharing, provides secure access and helps doctors make informed decisions for patients.

The healthcare sector in the UAE is booming in terms of competency, expertise and technology, thereby consolidating the country’s global position in digital health.

Healthcare Professionals Assessment Using Metaverse

The Ministry of Health and Prevention is launching the first virtual center for evaluating healthcare professionals using Metaverse technology. The move is part of the UAE’s efforts to attract and retain talent in strategic sectors and establish the country as a preferred destination for global talent.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the country's leadership to boost the use of technology in various industries. In addition, it emphasizes the increasing significance of virtual reality in the UAE's future, as the country’s digital infrastructure continues to develop as one of the best in the world. The virtual center offers many benefits:

  • The center simulates a realistic evaluation, ensuring role clarity by providing one separate platform for the evaluation committee, and another for the observers and applicants. It ensures the confidentiality and security of all data and records that the applicant presents during the evaluation.
  • It facilitates remote access to healthcare professional evaluation services. The personal data and medical certificate of the applicant are matched using artificial intelligence, guaranteeing data safety.
  • It provides a suitable alternative for people of determination and those who are unable to travel physically to complete their evaluation.
  • The center supports the work of private healthcare and pharmacy institutions and healthcare professionals as part of a comprehensive framework that aims to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the healthcare sector.

Medical thermal imaging technology

The Ministry of Health and Prevention has adopted the latest medical thermal imaging technology, which uses a tiny camera connected to a smartphone. The UAE is among the first countries to adopt this technology, which contributes to faster and better diagnosis of patients. This technology is used in many cases, such as:

  • Monitoring diabetic foot inflammation
  • Monitoring the surgery site
  • Early detection of post-surgery inflammation
  • Monitoring face temperature to determine the psychological state of the patient.
  • Thermal oncology

Adopting medical thermal imaging technology is part of the ministry’s strategy to enhance the quality of health services by enabling healthcare professionals to use it as part of a wide medical imaging package that includes magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and axis imaging.

This comes in line with the ministry's keenness to adopt innovative and advanced medical products that support and facilitate the work of healthcare providers to diagnose diseases, improve the therapeutic experience for patients, and enhance the quality of life in the country.

The use of modern technology in healthcare enhances the UAE’s competitiveness in the industry in line with the best international practices.

The National Program for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue

The ‘Hayat’ national organ donation program was launched in 2016, with an objective to unify and develop national efforts to save the lives of patients with organ failure and improve the quality of life for patients, particularly those with heart diseases, and liver, kidney or lung failure.

The program uses blockchain technology to consolidate records on cloud, ensuring highest levels of data security for donors and patients. In addition, a tissue engineering center has been set up at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, in partnership with Mohammed bin Rashid University for Medicine and Health Sciences, adhering to the latest international health standards.

The program is part of the country’s efforts to become a pioneering model in the field of organ and tissue engineering. Furthermore, it aims to encourage organ donation among community members.

The UAE is committed to providing the best resources and capabilities to support the success of the organ donation program, including medical personnel, facilities, and technological infrastructure, in addition to partnerships with international organizations.

Tatmeen platform

The Tatmeen platform has been developed as a track and trace platform for pharmaceutical and medical products throughout the supply chain, promoting transparency and reliability using GS1 serialization. The platform uses a smart tracking system and employs the best technologies and equipment to track counterfeit products and discard expired drugs.

It tracks products right from import or local manufacturing to the end use, thus ensuring the complete safety of pharmaceutical and pharmacy products. Tatmeen serves as a tool for verifying product authenticity and preventing the supply of counterfeit products. It also provides an interactive system of reports that allows inspectors to track the source of drugs entering the supply chain in the country.

The platform aims to ensure the safety and reliability of imported and locally manufactured drugs and to enhance public confidence in pharmaceutical products. It prevents the access of counterfeit and expired medicines to consumers, thereby ensuring patient safety, improved health service efficiency, and smart healthcare in the country, in line with the government initiatives in investing in digital technologies for enhancing service quality and efficiency of the health sector.
