The UAE celebrates Commemoration Day every year, remembering and recognising the sacrifices and dedication of Emirati martyrs who gave their lives in civil, military, and humanitarian service for the country.

The late President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan declared November 30 as Commemoration Day in 2015, remembering the death of Salem Suhail Khamis, the first Emirati to be killed in military service since the formation of the UAE, in 1971.
