International Day of Human Fraternity

This day celebrates the values of human fraternity to emphasize the significance of adopting a culture of mutual respect. 

Official Date: February 4

On February 4, 2019, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, and Pope Francis signed the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi to advocate principles of human empathy and tolerance.

  • Promote world peace among individuals and nations.
  • Defy extremism and fanaticism by fostering a culture of tolerance and acceptance among people.
  • Inspire and empower youth and women to build peaceful communities.
  • Initiate and encourage dialogue.
  • Emphasize that freedom is a right for every human being.
  • Protect places of worship.
  • Stress the importance of adopting a mercy-based justice strategy.
  • Maintain good relations between East and West.
  • Advocate women’s right to study and work.
  • Encourage the protection of the elderly, disabled, and oppressed by official legislations.
