MoHAP launches 3D Digital Metaverse Assessment Service for Health Professionals & Innovative Thermal Imaging Technology

Published Wednesday, 01 February 2023

Adding yet another feather to its cap, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched an innovative service to evaluate healthcare professionals, including doctors and allied practitioners, using cutting-edge "Metaverse" technology.

The 3D Digital Metaverse Assessment Service seamlessly integrates the real, virtual, and digital worlds, enhancing the delivery of both government and private healthcare services. The move comes in support of the UAE's relentless efforts to attract and retain top talent in key sectors and cement its status as a top destination for global talent.

MoHAP has also unveiled a new medical thermal imaging technology, further enabling healthcare providers to utilize cutting-edge innovations. The UAE is at the forefront of this technology, being one of the first countries in the world to adopt it. After successful completion of clinical trials with the manufacturer, this cutting-edge solution will soon be available for use across the country.

The two new services were announced today during a press conference held at Arab Health 2023, which is taking place at the Dubai World Trade Center. During the launch ceremony, H.E. Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Regulation Sector, MoHAP, highlighted the importance and advantages of the two projects and answered questions from journalists.

Evaluation of health practitioners

The 3D Digital Metaverse Assessment Service will enable the ministry to remotely evaluate health practitioners, including doctors and allied health professionals. This service will also streamline procedures while maintaining data security through AI. It will be unique for its several key features, including transparency and secure remote assessment where AI will be used to ensure that personal data and medical certificates match during the assessment process.

Interactive digital sensory experience

This technology also monitors eye movements and analyzes facial expressions for the safety of the evaluation process. The 3D platform, which simulates a realistic assessment hall, provides clear roles and platforms for the judging committee, invigilators, and examinees. Users can display any necessary documents during the assessment while ensuring the confidentiality and security of all related data and records.

The ministry stressed that the innovative service will cater to customer needs by offering a 3D virtual world experience and digital sensory interaction testing, eliminating the need for physical distance. The new technology provides a practical solution for those with disabilities, unable to visit a ministry building, and for individuals outside the country to efficiently complete their transactions.

Thermal imaging technology

As for the innovative thermal imaging technology, the ministry revealed that the new imaging technology will be effectively use in detecting diabetic foot inflammation for early diagnosis and monitoring surgical sites for infection risk. It will also be used in determining psychological state through facial temperature analysis, and tracking blood vessels associated with heat-producing tumors in thermal oncology, which streamlines the process of diagnosing and monitoring patients' conditions.

The new technology, which features a small camera linked to mobile phones, is set to bring about a paradigm shift in thermal imaging services as it can be utilized in conjunction with well-established imaging techniques like X-rays, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine, and CT scans.

Digital infrastructure

H.E. Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri emphasized the ministry's commitment to enhancing customer experience through the utilization of cutting-edge technologies, adding that virtual reality technology will have a crucial role in the future of the UAE over the next fifty years, particularly with the advanced digital infrastructure in place. The Metaverse offers a seamless network of 3D virtual worlds with sensory experiences in a digital format. Technology experts concur that the ministry has the necessary capabilities to successfully implement this service.

Attracting innovative techniques

Dr. Al Amiri stressed that the ministry will spare no effort to attract, license, and register innovative medical products that support healthcare providers in diagnosing diseases and improving the treatment experience for patients. This can definitely be accomplished by promoting the use of modern technology in medical equipment and supplies, which boosts the country's competitiveness while also reinforcing the regulatory and investment environment in the healthcare sector according to international best practices.

He added that the integration of thermal imaging technology into medical imaging services comes as part of the ministry's strategy aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services.

Al Amiri went on to say that MoHAP, together with local health authorities and the private sector, are leading the way in offering innovative and technologically advanced health and treatment services to improve the quality of life in the country and build a healthier future for all.
