The UAE has been awarded the World Summit on the Information Society Forum's 2022 (WSIS) for the digital transformation in healthcare after the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) took part in the event, showcasing ‘Riayati' platform, the national unified medical record.
During the global event, the ministry also highlighted a series of digital achievements made in the healthcare sector, which reflects the UAE’s strategy to automate and digitize all government services.
Held in Switzerland with the participation of experts from 193 countries, WSIS, the world's largest annual gathering of the ICT for development community was co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and other UN organizations and WSIS action plan facilitators.
Global Recognition
“This honor is yet another global recognition of the leading achievements made by the UAE, especially in the digital transformation of the healthcare sector. It would not have been possible had it not been for the wise directives of our leadership that has always been keen to adopt the latest healthcare technologies and promote the country’s position among the top digital health providers in the world,” H.E Ahmad Ali Al Dashti, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector in MoHAP, said.
Al Dashti stressed that the UAE is seeking to build a sophisticated, world-class and sustainable healthcare system according to the highest international standards, as part of its vital projects for the next 50 years.
He emphasized that ‘Riayati' platform played a pivotal role in upgrading the national healthcare sector by establishing a central digital system, which displays updated clinical data for patient records, adding that the platform has helped improve the quality and level of health services provided to the public.
Digital health records
For his part, Ali Al Ajmi, Director of the Digital Health Department, MoHAP, underscored that ‘Riayati' platform has yielded great results, including but not limited to, enhancing the disease surveillance mechanism, increasing productivity, improving patients’ treatment experiences, facilitating the process of applying best standards and practices and providing easy access to data.
“In addition to improving the quality of information and reducing costs, the platform has also contributed to providing digital records for patients while observing all privacy standards. It also helped facilitate the exchange of information related to health insurance between health insurance companies and health insurance claims management companies,” Al Ajmi added.
During the event, Al Ajmi took part in the UAE Open Day, along with the Acting Executive Director of the Information Sector at the Emirates Health Services (EHS), to discuss the latest health technologies developments and how digital transformation can affect the provision of health services in health facilities across the country.
