The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with Dubai Health, has organised a blood donation campaign at its headquarters in Dubai.

The campaign, part of MoHAP’s community initiatives, aimed to foster a culture of blood donation and strengthen the values of unity and collaboration across all societal segments. It also aligns with MoHAP’s strategy to support national volunteer initiatives and prioritise patient care.

Impressive participation

During the campaign's opening, which witnessed impressive participation from employees, HE Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Regulation Sector, MoHAP, emphasised that the Ministry is committed to regularly organising blood donation drives to boost hospital blood reserves, adding that blood donation is a noble humanitarian act that saves the lives of patients in urgent need of transfusions and supports various medical and surgical procedures.

Dr. Al Amiri emphasized the need to educate the public about the importance of safe blood donations, highlighting this practice as a sign of a healthy and civilized approach to volunteerism and generosity, values ingrained in UAE society. He commended UAE people for their substantial contributions and leading by example in donating.

Integration of efforts with partners

Dr. Al Amiri commended the collaboration with Dubai Health, which is part of their strategic partnership to deliver innovative and high-quality health services. “We are committed to strengthening the healthcare system and enhancing the quality of life and community health, driven by our ambitious national vision of ensuring a sustainable and healthy future for all.”

Dr. Al Amiri emphasised that the blood donation campaign exemplifies the Ministry's commitment to following the directives of our wise leadership in fostering a culture of social responsibility among employees and community members. It also highlights their essential role in giving and volunteering, positively impacting the lives of others, and ensuring a safe and steady blood supply.

International standards

Meanwhile, Dr. Heba Al Humaidan, Head of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Dubai Health, stated: "Through the Blood Donation Centre, we provide approximately 50% of the total blood units collected, adhering to the highest safety standards and international best practices to save patients' lives. This campaign is part of a series of 540 initiatives conducted by the centre since the beginning of the year, resulting in the collection of over 50,000 units of blood. This achievement highlights Dubai Health's commitment to meeting patients' blood needs, in line with Dubai Health's core value of 'Patients First.' She also praised the close collaboration with the Ministry for the success of this humanitarian initiative, which plays a fundamental role in saving lives."

The Ministry of Health and Prevention urges all community members to join in the blood donation campaigns, as this noble act plays a vital role in addressing the needs of patients, particularly in emergency situations and major surgical procedures, thereby saving lives and improving community health and quality of life across the country.

The Ministry emphasises that the blood donation process in the UAE is completely safe, with medical staff adhering to the most current and best international standards and practices. Notably, the UAE prides itself on a blood supply system that relies entirely on 100% voluntary donations.
