Statements by MoHAP on the International Nurses Day

HE AbdulRahman Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), stressed that the remarkable achievements made by nursing cadres will forever be remembered by the UAE leadership and people, adding that they have been a steppingstone toward the recovery stage from the pandemic.

On the occasion of International Nurses Day, which is observed on May 12th every year, Al Owais said, "The UAE sincerely believes in the outstanding capabilities of the national nursing cadres and considers them to be the true bulwark of the nation. It is the reason why the wise leadership has launched various national initiatives and programs to increase the attractiveness of the nursing profession and ensure its sustainability in order to provide greater community protection and meet national health requirements and priorities.”

The International Nurses Day is an opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes on the first line of defense and to express our gratitude for their efforts and dedication while serving the nation and mankind as a whole, the minister stated.

He noted that the establishment of the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery-2025 has been a turning point in strengthening the capabilities of the health system, by relying on governance, quality, and innovation in nursing educational, professional, and research development.

Al Owais concluded by affirming that the UAE is banking on its national health cadres to propel its comprehensive development journey to new heights of excellence and innovation.

HE Dr Mohammad Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), emphasized that the UAE has been proactive in launching leading initiatives and projects to support the development of nursing profession and consolidate its position within the national health system to effectively deal with all possible health risks.

Speaking on International Nurses Day, which is observed worldwide on May 12th, Al Olama stated, "Celebrating such an international occasion is nothing more than a token of gratitude and appreciation for the incredible sacrifices made by the nursing staff and a global recognition of their dedication to improving the health of societies."

It is also an acknowledgement of the importance of nurses, who have become a fundamental pillar of all healthcare systems, playing a vital role in supporting comprehensive health coverage, said Al Olama, adding that the UAE's celebration of this occasion comes at a time when the country is making strenuous efforts to strengthen and empower nursing cadres.

"The UAE has established clear strategic goals to improve the vital status of the nursing profession within national health policies and spares no effort to anticipate the future of nursing and invest sustainably in health cadres," Al Olama maintained.

He reiterated that the Ministry of Health and Prevention is committed to strengthening the nursing profession and has launched several programs to attract and retain qualified and specialized nursing cadres, and improve their professional level to provide the best level of health care services.
