The Ministry of Health and Prevention has announced the inauguration of “Breast Care” and “Pain Management” Unit sat Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah to help patients early detect breast cancer and treat those with chronic pains. The two units are equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies according to international quality standards and under the supervision of specialists.
The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Dr.Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Director of Ras Al Khaimah Medical District, H.E. Naema Al Sharhan, Member of the Federal National Council, and H.E. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Shayeb, General Director of the Department of Economic Development in Ras Al Khaimah , as well as a number of Directors of local departments and senior officials.
H.E. Yousif Mohammed Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecretary for the Hospital Sector, said that the opening of the breast care and pain management units would add value to the diagnostic and therapeutic services under one roof, through upgrading and developing treatment protocols in hospitals, according to an integrated medical system that provides high quality health care.
The move comes in line with the Ministry's strategy aiming to provide comprehensive and innovative healthcare services and attract future therapeutic protocols in order to make use of digital and medical innovations. “The Ministry is keen to bring about a paradigm shift in the healthcare domain, using the latest technologies that utilize medical data to develop innovative models for patients' health care” Al Serkal added.
Breast Care Unit - 100% Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration into Medical Services
He further said that AI has been introduced to the Breast Care Unit to read X-rays, making it the sole local and regional center fulfilling this achievements, which will be added to the UAE’s proven track record. This also comes in line with our wise leadership directives to fully integrate AI into medical services by 2030.
The Breast Care Unit, as Al Serkal said, will provide a host of medical services through the early detection clinic, the diagnostic clinic, the early detection device “Mammogram Examination”. The unit is also managed by a team of specialists who was trained and qualified to provide integrated services that meet patients’ needs, which will thereby contribute to strengthening national efforts to combat breast cancer.
Pain Management Unit - Develop treatment plans tailored to the patient's specific needs
The pain management unit was also opened to treat patients with chronic pains, alleviate the organic and psychological pain and restore patients’ confidence in the ability to live a normal life. The unit is equipped with up-to-date techniques, most notably the radio frequency generator. It will help patients referred to from internal, orthopedic and neurological clinics to get safe, stable and effective medications, diagnose and treat chronic pain and restore normal lifestyle. It will also help patients through developing treatment plans designed to meet their needs and circumstances and will focus on the patient's overall health not only pain, which helps achieve positive results.
The pain management unit will provide diagnosis and treatment services in collaboration with other medical specialties including the intervention pain management, anesthesia, neurology, rheumatology, physiotherapy, nutrition. The specialists team will set specific treatment goals based on a multi-modal system, which is the key for successful pain management.
If these treatments were effective, the pain would be significantly reduced, providing access to long-term non-drug medication, thus patients would restore control on their lives and they work and live normally.
