The Ministry of Health and Prevention, MoHAP, revealed the success of the Robotic Surgeries Program in performing 44 surgeries and 47 medical consultations between February and September.

The UAE’s first-of-its-kind achievement comes as part of an integrated strategy to consolidate the robotic surgeries in the UAE and in line with a forward-looking vision to pursue the innovation in robotic surgeries and enhance the use of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a sustainable approach in future healthcare services.

H.E Dr. Mohamed Salim Al Olama Undersecretary of MPOHAP underlined that MoHAP’s healthcare services have witnessed a paradigm shift towards incorporating new technologies such as AI, robots and smart systems.

The success of the robotic surgeries in Gynecology and Obstetrics comes in the wake of the successful outcomes of using the robot in heart surgeries. This paves the way for relying on robotic surgery in other medical specialties.

MoHAP was proactive in using the latest robots in surgeries, thanks to their extreme precision in performing surgeries because of the firmness of the robotic arm.

Using robots also helps reduce patients’ post-surgery pain, in addition to lowering infection hazards and the need for blood transfusion.

A Successful Model of Incorporating AI into Health Services

“MoHAP has begun using the AI in the affiliated hospitals and work is underway to incorporate the AI by 100% into the medical services pursuant to the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis by 100%. This aligns with the UAE Centennial 2071 to develop the healthcare services by providing the latest therapeutic methods, offering world-class, comprehensive and innovative healthcare services, and alleviating the burden of traveling abroad to receive the treatment,” he noted.

Commending the high competency of Dr. Labib Riachi, Gynecological robotic surgery specialist, in performing 44 successful surgeries during his six visits to the country, Dr. Sultan Al Sharif, Director of the MoHAP’s Visiting Consultants Office, pointed out that this achievement is a clear-cut evidence of the success of Visiting Consultants Program launched by MoHAP several years earlier.

Dr. Labib Riachi performs various gynecological surgeries such as fibroids removal, hysterectomy, ovarian cysts and complicated tumors using the robot, Urogynecology surgeries, pelvic floor relaxation, uterine prolapse which many women complain after pregnancy and because of age.

Al Sharif added that the program has managed to attract the most important international medical competencies in complicated and rare specialties, with the aim of developing the therapeutic services and keeping pace with the latest updates in the global medical arena.

Ongoing Achievements

The Director of the MoHAP’s Visiting Consultants Office shed light on the importance of Visiting Consultants Program in sharing experiences between MoHAP doctors and the visiting consultants, fostering academic communication with the highest global medical centers.

These efforts aim at developing the health and therapeutic care in accordance with the best quality standards in line with the National Health Strategy and the UAE vision 2021.
