In an outstanding medical achievement, the Cardiology Department at Al Qassimi Hospital for Women & Children of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, MoHAP, has succeeded in performing 10 rare and complicated open-heart surgeries for children weighing from 5 to 10kg.
Among these cases, a two-year child weighing 10 kg. He was diagnosed with a hole in the heart along with a leaky heart valve. The kid underwent successful surgery and restored his recovery within only two days of the surgery.
Such achievements reflect the fruitful efforts and cooperation of the medical team at Al Qassimi Hospital for Women & Children including doctors, surgeons, anesthesiologists, ICU staff, and technicians, besides the post-surgery superior medical care.This has contributed to reducing length of stay and the speedy recovery of children.
Enhancing Innovation in Treatment
Commending the medical achievements of Al Qassimi Hospital for Women & Children, Dr. Kalthoum Al Baloushi, Director of MoHAP’s Hospitals Administration, stressed MoHAP’s keenness on enhancing innovation and excellence and adopting the state-of-the-art therapeutic protocols in its hospitals by attracting specialized various medical competencies and using the latest medical technologies.

Expressing her pride in the highly skilled medical team of the Hospital, Dr. Safia Al Khaja, Director of Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital pointed out that the Cardiology Department has succeeded in performing about 50 pediatric cardiac catheterization cases annually since inception in 2018.

In turn, Dr. Khalid Khalfan Sabt, the technical director of the hospital said that this achievement is constituting a nucleus for establishing a pediatric cardiology center at the hospital to provide superior care for children with congenital heart defects from birth, pointing to the great efforts of the medical team headed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Kamali, Head of Pediatric Cardiology Center at Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital. This stems from MoHAP’s keenness on recruiting the best medical competencies and providing all the support for further medical achievements and the contribution to children’s treatment.
