Ministry of Health and Prevention Holds the Leadership Development Program for the 17th Year in a Row

The Nursing Department of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that 124 affiliate members from nursing and other technical sections were graduated at the end of the 6th edition of Nursing Leaders Qualification Programme which is prepared and approved by the International Council of Nurses. 17 females out of 124 graduates are Emirati certified trainers.

UAE is the first country which adopted the recent changes in the program in its sixth phase , the program was held at MoHAP’s Training & Development Center, Sharjah, the program aims at enhancing the leadership skills for the national nursing professionals and enabling them to make the strategic changes that bolster the role of the nursing profession 

An official graduation certificate, from the International Council of Nurses, has been given to those who passed the program, in addition to 60 internationally accredited Continuing Medical Education hour valid for 5 years, and life membership at the International Council of Nurses.

Strengthen nursing leadership capacities

Furthermore, the program in its 17th edition enables the participants to effectively take part in developing and evaluating the national health policies and tailoring the projects aiming to upgrade the nursing profession. 

Also, the program aims to enhance the leadership and management capabilities in the nursing field, so as to reinforce the nursing profession and the relevant health policies.

Dr. Sumaya Al Balushi, Director of Nursing Department, MoHAP, said that the program aims at strengthening the leadership skills for the female nurses at all levels and providing them with the essential knowledge to effectively participate in the management of the UAE’ healthcare. That could be obtained through various workshops, remote educational activities and conducting researches and projects.

The importance of nursing in health policies

The key outputs of the program include identifying the role of nursing in developing the national health policies, improving the skills, competencies and strategic planning, in addition to understanding the requirements of the international organizations and effective management. 

Also, the program outputs feature the development and application of leadership skills and qualities through tangible outcomes that truly reflect the vital impact of nursing on all concerned parties and decision-makers.

The program consists of a 5-day workshop, twice a year. Each workshop contains various lectures on the development of the participants’ leadership skills. During these workshops, the participants are divided into different workgroups, each of which has to select a project that serves in the interest of the outputs of the National Agenda and the Strategic Plan for Nursing Management, while providing the required instruction and information.
