The Ministry of Health and Prevention, MoHAP, recently announced that the medical laboratories of Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital have obtained the international accreditation (ISO 15189) in cooperation with the Emirates International Accreditation Centre (EIAC), making MoHAP’s laboratories network the largest in the Middle East that obtains this accreditation.

Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Sharjah revealed that 129,000 examinations were performed in the last 3 months, producing 5 types of tests in: biochemistry, hematology, serology, immunology, and blood transmission. These services are provided by a specialized laboratory staff of 23 employees who work efficiently to support the overall healthcare services in the hospital.

The requirements for this specialized accreditation include all stages of work, as well as a system for quality management in laboratories based on the principles of patient safety and care, in order to provide them with the best experience and to enable doctors and the health team to obtain accurate and accredited results, which help conduct internationally accredited diagnostic and treatment protocols.

His Excellency Dr. Hussein Abdel-Rahman Al-Rand, Assistant Undersecretary of Health Centers and Clinics Sector, said: “This new accreditation comes as part of MoHAP’s relentless efforts to reinforce the efficiency of the health facilities network and to achieve quality standards and patient safety, as well as to enhance the leadership in the international accreditation field, and on top of this to support national efforts in addressing COVID-19 repercussions.”

Al -Rand noted that this achievement comes at a time when the UAE has ranked first in the world in terms of COVID-19 screening per capita, pointing out that the accreditation would help consolidate the UAE’s global leadership for the fifth consecutive year in terms of the number of accredited health facilities.

Such accomplishments clearly reflect the efficiency of the UAE’s health system and the effectiveness of its curative and preventive practices in line with the guidelines and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as its implementation of the highest international standards in providing health care to citizens and residents.

Quality of laboratories

“In order to enhance the operational efficiency of MoHAP’s labs, we’ve linked them to a single electronic network to meet the AI-based highest global standards. This is in addition to the presence of a professional and skilled medical staff in accordance with the highest accredited practices in partnership with Pure Health,” he pointed out.

Concluding his remarks, Al-Rand shed light on the unlimited support and directives of the wise leadership in terms of harnessing the best potential and resources, as well as the forward-looking vision to develop the competitiveness of the country’s health sector, thereby enhancing UAE’s position as a leading country in laboratory diagnostic services regionally.
