HE Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), emphasized that qualified midwives and specialists play a crucial and active role in supporting the UAE’s health sector now and in the future. Along with other nursing staff and personnel, they form the first line of defense for health security in the country and exemplify the highest expressions of compassion and humanity.
Speaking on the occasion of International Day of the Midwife, which falls on May 5 of every year, Al Olama said: "The Ministry is committed to continuously developing and organizing the midwifery profession as a priority, in line with the 'National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery 2022-2026'. We look forward to increasing the number of women interested in joining this profession, attracting national talent in this field, enhancing their skills and efficiency, and strengthening their role. MoHAP also offers scholarship programs for pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing and midwifery. These efforts not only help us develop a specialized national nursing workforce, but also provide world-class care that meets the needs of UAE society."
"Midwives play a pivotal role in providing reproductive health services and striving to achieve zero preventable deaths during childbirth, thus safeguarding the lives of mothers and newborns. Midwifery has been, and will continue to be, a source of confidence and reassurance in our society, offering vital care for mothers, newborns, and supporting family health. We must not forget the unwavering dedication of midwives who have stood on the frontlines alongside nursing staff, diligently combating COVID-19 in order to protect the lives of our citizens and residents." Dr. Al Olama added.
