The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has discussed with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade ways to boost collaboration, exchange medical expertise, and expand partnerships in the pharmaceutical sector, in order to enhance the efficiency of the UAE’s pharmaceutical system, and encourage more Russian companies to transfer some of their production lines to the UAE.
During the meeting, the ministry briefed the Russian delegation on the UAE’s conducive environment provided to encourage investments in the pharmaceutical sector in accordance with the best international practices.
H.E. Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Regulation Sector, MoHAP, and Vladislav Shestakov, Director of the State Institute of Medicines and Good Practices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, held the discussions at MoHAP’s headquarters in Dubai.
The two officials also reviewed the latest achievements and pharmaceutical innovations in the two countries and explored avenues of attracting more Russian pharmaceutical companies and factories to the UAE, as well as expanding the presence of Emirati pharmaceutical products in the Russian market.
Expanding partnerships
Underscoring the importance of the meeting, Al Amiri said that the two sides had an opportunity to review the best international practices in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing, and agreed on the need to expand partnerships with countries that have expertise in the field of pharmaceutical industries, to further strengthen the local industrial base, support the sustainability of health services in the UAE, and satisfy the needs of all patients.
He stressed that the meeting with the Russian officials comes as part of the ministry’s keenness to foster partnerships in the pharmaceutical industries by offering a supportive environment to produce novel medical preparations, thus improving the nation's pharmaceutical stockpile and ensuring a steady supply of medications.
Mutual cooperation
For his part, Vladislav Shestakov said that Russia is keen to strengthen its cooperation with the UAE to serve the pharmaceutical sectors of both nations. He spoke highly of the impressive development and advanced infrastructure of the UAE’s health system, especially the pharmaceutical sector, and lauded the country’s conducive environment created to attract international pharmaceutical companies wishing to expand their markets in the region.
