The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has hosted the 1st Scientific Conference on Health and Medical Research, one of the ministry's latest initiatives aimed at building a stimulating scientific research system and developing the skills and competencies of national cadres.

The two-day event, which was held in Dubai, aimed to support the ministry's strategy tailored to develop national cadres with expertise in health and medical research.

The conference was inaugurated by HE Ahmed Ali Al Dashti, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services Sector, in the presence of academics, health professionals, scientists, researchers, and post-graduate students, as well as local and international experts.

The gathering shed light on the latest developments in medical and health research, which highlighted researchers' efficiency and experiences, as well as the remarkable resources available at academic institutions and public and private health facilities.

The event also provided academics with an ideal platform to assess and discuss their work, as well as to build relationships with like-minded researchers across the world.

HE Al Dashti stressed that organizing the conference will support the ministry's ongoing efforts to create a scientific platform that helps develop research and innovation and boosts investment in the medical field, in line with ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and the UAE Centennial 2071.

"MoHAP pays utmost attention to health and medical research, and seeks, through the National Center for Health Research, to strengthen cooperation and coordination between academic, scientific, health care institutions and private companies. This is to achieve the UAE’s strategic goal of promoting national indicators in the field of research and innovation," Al Dashti said.

He emphasized that the conference is of special importance as it addressed pressing topics that need extra scientific research, adding that the ministry will continue to redouble its efforts to upgrade medical and health scientific research strategies to innovate accurate treatments that serve patients and the wider society.

During the event, researchers and academics discussed a range of medical topics, focusing on diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, genetics, infectious diseases, environmental diseases, neurosciences, and mental health, as well as topics relating to women and children and cutting-edge trends in the treatment of cancer and AI-based health care solutions.

The forum also featured lectures delivered by healthcare professionals, discussing healthcare administration, psychological health, experimental oncology and therapeutics, novel asthma medicines, a scientific study into the Covid-19 pandemic, environmental health: disease and prevention, lessons learned from Covid-19, and the use of AI in healthcare.
