The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that its platform at GITEX Technology Week 2019 in Dubai is featuring one of its most important strategic projects - “Hayat” Smart App – which is linked to the National Program for Organ Donation.

Hayat app constitutes a sustainable solution for a considerable number of patients with heart disease, pulmonary failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney failure. The app also contributes to reviving hopes of many patients, for that reason the application was named “Hayat”. The block-chain-based application is featuring cloud registries for donors while ensuring the highest levels of data security. Organ donors can register their information using their mobile phones.

A Leading Position in Organ Transplantation Field

The UAE is aspiring to take an advanced place in terms of enhancing organ transplantation practices and empowering transplantation of human organs and tissues, thanks to the availability of great potential including competent medical staff, health facilities and technology infrastructure.

In addition to the international partnerships held with the most renowned global institutions in the field of organ transplantation. This would help relieve the pain of thousands of patients, alleviate the burden on hospitals and cut down the budgets and expenditures allocated for treatment.

Moreover, the National Program for Organ Donation helps reinforce the culture of giving and tolerance among individuals from different nationalities. This underlines the success of MoHAP’s media activities in motivating people to register as organ donors.

Utilization of the Technological Tools in Healthcare Field

The smart app “Hayat” is designed for registration for deceased organ donors and it comes in pursuance of the Federal Law No. 5 of 2016 allowing transplantation of human organs and tissues after death, which was issued by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to keep pace with the latest international health standards.

Also, the app falls under the UAE’s strategy in terms of adopting sophisticated technological tools such as the block-chain and artificial intelligence in the various sectors of the country.

Registration Process

Dr. Lubna Al Shaali, Director of Public Health Policy Department, MoHAP, said: “Hayat" app allows every person who has full capacity to register as an organ donor to donate one of his organs, or parts of it, or his tissues after death. Users can opt-out of the app unconditionally.”

“there is a three-step procedure. In the first step, donors are required to fill out their details in three quick steps. Then, the user receives an email to confirm his identity in coordination Federal Authority for Identity & Citizenship. The user is required to electronically sign his application. At the second level, the system will run a search for patients who are in need of human organs, while the last and final step will be conducting a smart matching to identify tissue compatibility between the patient and the donor.”

Various Channels for Registering Organ Donors

“Hayat” app is witnessing remarkable participation of both citizens and residents to register as organ donors. They can enquire more information about the app, how to register, registration terms and conditions and its technical procedures throughout various methods provided by the ministry. This includes social media platforms, MoHAP website, customer happiness centers, and others.
