Ministry of Health and Prevention organizes training workshop under empowerment and education diabetes program

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) organized an intensive training session for health care providers who offer diabetic care at the Ministry's clinics, under the Diabetes and Empowerment Program within the framework of the ‘Circle of Care’ initiative in cooperation with AstraZeneca Company. The training workshop, held at the Sharjah Training and Development Center, aimed to improve diabetes self-management by evaluating patients' awareness levels on the disease and self-care patterns, in addition to evaluating improvements in the quality of their lives, to achieve the set diabetes goals within the UAE National Agenda 2021.

His Excellency (H.E.) Hussein Abdel Rahman Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Centers and Clinics, said during his keynote at the opening ceremony of the training workshop that the ‘National Diabetes Strategy’ aims to reduce the incidence rate from 19.3 per cent to 16.28 per cent by 2021 as part of the Ministry's strategy to promote healthy lifestyles, and to strengthen the prevention side. It also aims to reduce the prevalence of diseases by providing comprehensive and integrated health care in innovative and sustainable ways to ensure community prevention. He also noted the significance of the expected results of the national health survey, which is being done in cooperation with the partners in updating the health database, including diabetes.

Dr. Aisha Suhail, Director of Primary Health Care, said: “The Ministry is always seeking to raise awareness on the importance of this program, and to train patients in self-care procedures, where the patients are trained to control diabetes through the implementation of five steps, with the help of nurses and specialists in the field of diabetes health care.

Dr. Buthaina Bin Belaila, Head of Non-Communicable Diseases, explained that the program will focus on providing five steps of the self-care process. It also includes the process of clinical and behavioral data collected from the patients involved in the project. We will also be conducting a series of visits to address the challenges and provide support and assistance to avoid any gaps after the training workshop, in cooperation with the ‘Hope Project.’
