The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP), represented by its Specialized Care Management Department, successfully organized a series of awareness programs and workshops about breast cancer, which were organized under the patronage of His Excellency (H.E.) Dr. Yousef Mohammad Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecretary for Hospitals Sector. The move falls in line with the Ministry's strategy to provide comprehensive and fully integrated health care services in an innovative and sustainable manner, which ensures prevention among the community and the implementation of the National Strategy for Cancer Mortality Reduction. The workshops were held at key venues that included the Dubai Women's Association branch in Al Khawaneej and in the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, in collaboration with the Management of Child and Motherhood Care sections of local health centers and clinics sector and the management of Supportive Medical Services (Nutrition Department).
The activities were attended by around 50 women from the community and employees of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, health support societies in the council and many others.
Dr. Mona Al-Kuwari, Director of the Specialized Care Management, MOHAP, pointed out that these awareness-raising workshops are part of the efforts to reduce the incidence of deaths related to cancer based on national indicators thru the implementation of a health system based on the highest international standards and to also achieve the vision of UAE 2021.
The program included an interactive conference on the dangerous factors, stages of the disease, survival opportunities by stages, prevention of disease and periodic tests for early detection of the breast cancer according to age groups and treatment methods. The program also highlighted the training of the attendees on how to self-examine the breast and then a demonstration of the sensitivity of the tumor to the breast sample, as well as the activity of measuring the proportion of fat and the indicator of obesity to attendees.
