MoHAP Launches the Wellbeing Platform to Measure Happiness Index among Medical Staff and Patients

The Ministry of Health and Prevention, MoHAP, has recently launched the “Wellbeing Platform”, in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation and the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence. This was announced as part of MoHAP’s participation in the Arab Health 2020, which is held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, January 27 – 30.

The project includes the establishment of a wellbeing platform to measure the happiness and well-being of patients and the medical staff, and it aims to develop future government designs, by promoting all government policies, programs, and services that help create a positive and happy society, as well as to reinforce positivity as a basic value in the UAE society.

Facilitates Communication between Patient and Health Care Providers

The new platform will be piloted according to the data collected from different centers and hospitals in the country, so as to maintain the platform mechanism and ease of its understanding, in addition to assimilating the happiness and wellbeing index precisely by doctors and patients.

This would help obtain better results on a larger scale, and will also contribute to avoiding any possible errors by the doctor or medical staff.

The wellbeing platform is providing high-quality health care services, easing communication between patients and health care providers, understanding the levels of customer satisfaction and the level of general satisfaction in the facility.

This, in turn, would help develop the appropriate plan to improve the performance of medical facilities.

The well-being platform includes a number of digital cameras, with the aim of analyzing individual facial expressions and stress levels through the tone of voice and adding it to the detailed wellness platform where happiness and well-being are measured.

The project aims to foster a culture of happiness and quality of life between MoHAP employees and clients by harnessing artificial intelligence and smart health services to measure the happiness and well-being of patients and the medical team.

This would help ensure the provision of all health services in accordance with quality, efficiency and transparency standards, consolidate the culture of innovation in the institutional work environment, and create a solid institutional culture in a motivational work environment that encourages positive competition, promote creativity and innovation, and provide solutions to future challenges.

Happiness and Quality of Life

HE Awad Saghir Al Ketbi, Assistant Undersecretary of the Support Services Sector, said: “The UAE Government puts happiness and quality of life on top of its priorities, and strives to develop and achieve sustainability in this pivotal sector. In this regard, MoHAP has launched the National Quality of Life Strategy 2031, which aims to transform the UAE from the concept of the good life to the holistic concept of integrated quality of life. This would help bolster the UAE vision 2021 and achieve the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071.”

“In addition, MoHAP is keen to explore unprecedented paths to achieve innovation in the quality of health services, create sustainable solutions to the healthcare future, through the development of future government designs, and the achievement of scientific breakthrough using robots and artificial intelligence to raise the efficiency of hospitals and health centers,” Al Ketbi concluded.

Implementing the Project at Kuwait Hospital in Dubai

Ali Al-Ajmi, Director of the Health Information Systems Department, explained that the pilot phase of this project has been launched at Kuwait Hospital in Dubai, where a well-being platform was created to measure the well-being index of the medical team and patients through cameras capturing the person’s voice and picture.

The platform, then, analyzes the person’s blood pressure and facial expressions (happy, sad, neutral, etc.), in addition to analyzing stress levels through the tone of voice and adding it to the detailed wellness platform where happiness and well-being are measured.

Al-Ajmi added: “Studies and research have proved the effect of creating a positive work environment and the correlation between work and happiness among employees in retaining and improving talents and raising productivity, thus raising the percentage of patient and client satisfaction indirectly.”

These outputs are of the highest importance and priority to the MoHAP, as they are powerful enablers of patient happiness and positive impressions about services.

It also produces greater excellence and competition in the health sector, which leads to a positive impact on the welfare of society.

It’s noteworthy that MoHAP has launched strategic framework for happiness and quality of life, which includes 3 key pillars including; healthy individuals by adopting a healthy and active lifestyle with a good mood, a positive thinking, and balanced life, a positive and harmonious work environment that supports positive coherence and enables individuals to grow and develop, and flexible, handy, efficient, and high-quality operations and services.

While the strategic framework for happiness and quality of life also includes 5 enablers by harnessing advanced and innovative technological developments, enhancing the quality of life partnerships, using sustainable resources to enhance happiness and quality of life, managing knowledge by creating platforms for exchanging information and enabling their use to raise the quality of life, and managing health data to enhance status on the global health and quality of life agenda.
