The National Health Survey aims to strengthen the country’s health database through the collection of reliable field data on the current health situation in the UAE, which will help in the development of policies and strategies designed to improve the quality of healthcare services based on key health indicators.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention in cooperation with the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics and all health authorities and local statistics Centers in the country.

  • The family members included are (the head of the household, a family member aged 18 years and above, married women and children for those under the age of five, and the elderly for those who have reached the age of sixty).

The samples and participating families were randomly selected for all emirates by experts in the field of distributing samples to all emirates

Participation for individuals and families is optional, but participation is a national duty for all citizen and resident families that have been chosen as a participating family to support the UAE government and enhance the UAE’s role in the health field.

The duration of field work for the survey is six to seven months, covering all seven emirates.

  • A number of questionnaires will be collected by trained field teams using Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) platforms.
  • Quality control measures will be strictly observed during the data collection phase
  • Data will be collected through specific, approved questionnaires, as it is possible to collect some questionnaires simultaneously with each other in order to reduce the duration of the interview.
  • the duration for collecting identical data in the questionnaires is approximately one hour for each questionnaire as a maximum and the number of visits is one to three visits as a maximum.
  • All field work workers, including researchers, officials, and nurses, are accredited and approved by the Ministry of Health prevention, the Dubai Health Authority, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, and hold security permits that qualify them to conduct the survey.
  • Also, all field workers, including researchers, officials and nurses, have been trained and tested by MOHAP
  • Field team members will be in uniform with ID cards. They will also carry official letters of approval from the Ministry of Health and Prevention. There is a barcode on the ID card through which you can read the letter from MOHAP.
  • All information of participating families and individuals will be treated confidentially and will be kept in the Ministry of Health and Prevention
  • All personal and identifying information will be removed from your data before results are analyzed. Any bulletins or reports will not include identifying details such as your name, address, phone number, or Emirates ID

The police will be informed in advance to ensure the field work progresses smoothly. In some cases, police patrols may accompany field teams in some areas to increase safety.

National health survey:

Blood tests will be performed, such as:

  • Fasting blood glucose (FBG).
  • HbA1c cumulative blood sugar
  • Measuring the percentage of fats in the blood.
  • Triglycerides and HDL cholesterol
  • Hemoglobin levels
  • Blood pressure
  • Height, weight and waist

National Nutrition Survey:

There will be blood tests to measure some nutrients such as vitamin D and vitamin A, and a urine sample will be taken to measure sodium

Participation in sample collection and physical measurements is optional. These samples help correlate your health and nutritional data to better understand the overall health status of the population. You will be fully informed about what the sample includes and its purpose.

The report on the test results will be sent within 48 hours via text message.
