The Ministry of Health and Prevention has launched "Biosigns" project, a state-of-the-art system using artificial intelligence to transform smartphones and tablets into comprehensive health monitoring devices, at the Arab Health 2025, the largest gathering of healthcare professionals and industry experts in the Middle East, which concluded today in Dubai.

The "Biosigns" technology enables smartphone cameras to deliver precise readings of vital signs within seconds, setting new benchmarks for proactive healthcare. Using advanced AI algorithms, the system analyses facial images to detect subtle changes in skin colour and blood flow beneath the skin, converting visual data into accurate measurements of health indicators.

The smart system can measure cholesterol, haemoglobin, and glycated haemoglobin levels, in addition to vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, and stress levels, according to the ministry. The results are derived using advanced mathematical models, scientifically verified for accuracy.

Reducing operational costs

The innovative service will be accessible through a smart application compatible with various mobile devices and an electronic platform available via web browsers. It will integrate with approved health applications in the UAE and connect directly to the unified health record.

Compared to traditional devices, the technology minimizes the need for repeated visits to medical laboratories, delivers immediate and globally certified accurate results, reduces operational costs for routine tests, and enhances user experience with a user-friendly interface and continuous vital sign monitoring capabilities.

Promoting preventive health care

HE Abdullah Ahli, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector, stated that the project is a significant addition to the UAE's health innovation system. It will not only enhance preventive and proactive healthcare, and improve the efficiency and quality of health services, but will also advance the digital health data system, foster innovation in the healthcare sector, and promote customer experiences while raising health awareness.

Processing and analysing data in real time

For her part, Sarah bin Shaheen, Director of the Smart Health Department, stressed that the technology delivers immediate and accurate results based on numerous vital indicators, with real-time data processing and analysis, while adhering to the highest standards of privacy and security," bin Shaheen added.

Meanwhile, Hamda Al Mazmi, Acting Director of the Information Technology Department, emphasized that the project is built on four main pillars: an integrated digital infrastructure, robust cybersecurity and data protection systems, a connectivity and integration framework with health systems, and a comprehensive big data management and analysis system.

Smart Audit Project

The Ministry has also launched a Smart Audit Project, an AI-powered system designed to analyze and assess the compliance of architectural blueprints for health facilities with globally approved standards.

The smart system identifies violations or design errors that could compromise the quality of healthcare facilities or the safety of patients and staff, ensuring adherence to globally and locally approved engineering standards.

Using advanced algorithms, the system identifies design issues with a reported initial accuracy of 70 percent, reducing the reliance on manual reviews and mitigating the risk of human error.

AI shaping the future of healthcare facilities

H.E. Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of Health Regulations Sector, emphasized that the ministry is committed to developing innovative digital data-driven policies and regulations, adding that the Smart Audit Project will enhances the accuracy and efficiency of the review process while ensuring adherence to the highest international safety standards. Furthermore, the project contributes to boosting the competitiveness of the UAE's healthcare sector by streamlining licensing procedures and reducing operational costs.

Integrated digital ecosystem

For her part, Dr. Hessa Mubarak, Director of the Control, Audit, and Inspection Department at the ministry, said the project will be rolled out in three phases to ensure its objectives are met effectively. The first phase, focused on planning and system development, has already begun. The second phase, which involves testing and training, will last for six months, concluding at the end of the year. The third phase will see the project applied and fully operational for end-users.

Honouring partners

As part of its commitment to fostering collaboration, the Ministry honoured its strategic partners from the healthcare sector on the "Emirates Health" platform. This included the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the Dubai Health Authority, and key media partners. The honour was in recognition of their outstanding contributions to ensuring the UAE’s healthcare sector played a pivotal and influential role at the 50th edition of Arab Health.
