The nutrition and continuous medical education in Sharjah Medical District under the umbrella of the Ministry of Health celebrated the world diabetes day in Radisson Blu Hotel in Sharjah.

The ceremony which was attended by 250 employees of the medical districts and participated by the health authorities called for increasing the awareness of the community members with the dangers of diabetes and partnership with competent authorities to provide the most suitable treatment for the disease.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Centers and Hospitals, Mohammed Abdulla Al Zarooni, Director of Sharjah Medical District, Abdulla Al Muhairi, Chairman of Sharjah Health Authority and a number of employees in the health field.

Dr. Hussein Al Rand emphasized the importance of celebrating the world diabetes day in order to increase the society with the dangers, protection methods and complications. The world diabetes day renews the calls for finding the latest treatment techniques.

Dr. Al Rand also lauded the efforts of the UAE wise leadership government and the directors of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and the strategy of the ministry of health to fight the disease, increase awareness and health education of diabetes, avoid its complications. During the past few years, the UAE occupied the tenth rank instead of the second most affected countries.

He also noted the importance of preventive medicine in eliminating the dissemination of the disease in the UAE, enhancing the health of individuals and reducing the treatment costs of the disease. “It is very important for all of us in the health authorities to cooperate in eliminating the disease and prevent its complications. We also all seek to train our specialists in order to raise our provided health services”, he ended.

Furthermore, Maysson Al Shaer, Head of nutrition and continuous medical education in Sharjah medical district emphasized the important role of the ministry of health in supporting continuous medical education. She noted that the purpose of these awareness programs is to acknowledge the latest medical updates in the treatment, protection and diagnosis of the disease. The ceremony included free diagnosis sessions as well as blood sugar tests, blood pressure, BMI and triglyceride.

The ceremony also included an initiative for the district’s school canteens about the dangers of obesity, protection from diabetes, and a workshop about the healthy guidelines for diabetes among school children.

The workshop also highlighted the management of diabetes, healthcare in school health, protocol and diabetes emergency cases.

Additionally. Dr. Salwa Attyia, Ophthalmology Consultant in GMC Hospital, Ajman delivered a speech about the complications of diabetes and its impact o n eyes. Dr. Eman Fawzi Halawa, Pediatric Assistant Profession in the College of Medicine, Cairo University spoke about the early diagnosis of diabetes among children and adolescents, health coexistence with the diabetes. The ceremony also included a practical training on healthy food. At the end of the ceremony, the participants and sponsors were honored.
