Hayat program, a new hope imprint
The national program for regulating the transplantation of human organs and tissues "Hayat," has won Watani Al Emarat's "Hope Imprint" award in its 10th edition. The award is granted annually to individuals or entities that provide humanitarian, social, and charitable contributions to scientific research or through projects and initiatives executed within and outside the country, adding value to promoting social, educational, health, environmental, and humanitarian awareness issues.
The Hayat program was launched in 2016 to unify national efforts to save the lives of patients with organ failure by organizing organ donation and transplantation operations and improving health, safety, and quality of life in society. Since then, the health entities in the UAE have collaborated to implement the country's directives, making it a model to be emulated both regionally and globally in the field of human organ and tissue transplantation.
The societal awareness campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the health entities have raised awareness of the importance and nobility of organ donation among citizens and residents in the UAE. This is evidenced by the steady annual increase in the number of donors in the program, which witnessed a 41% increase in 2022 compared to 2021, additionally, more than 12,000 people of multiple nationalities and age groups expressed their willingness to support HAYAT UAE organ donation program. The program has also saved the lives of more than 500 people so far.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention continues to collaborate with federal entities and local and international health partners to achieve its strategic goals of enhancing the efficiency of the healthcare sector and improving the health of individuals and society.
