Free medical check-ups at the country’s airports and health tips to ensure safety during the Hajj season

UAE, September 20, 2015 – The Ministry of Health has concluded a successful campaign launched to provide full support for Hajj pilgrims. The Ministry has set up its own kiosks in strategic locations inside Dubai International Airport, Abu Dhabi International Airport and Sharjah International Airport to provide travelling pilgrims with basic medical examinations such as blood sugar and blood pressure tests, among others. The campaign falls in line with the Ministry’s efforts of ensuring the overall well-being of individuals and society by providing outstanding health care services in accordance with the highest international standards.
The recently concluded campaign also involved the distribution of leaflets which contained effective measures guaranteeing personal safety as well as ways of avoiding communicable diseases and other infections. Additionally, the leaflets provided health tips and guidance such as avoiding too much sun exposure, staying away from overcrowded places and preventing potential accidents during Hajj. In emergency cases, meanwhile, they covered advices on how to effectively communicate with concerned authorities, thus ensuring a safe and secure pilgrimage.
Dr. Abdul Karim Abdullah Al Zarouni, Director of Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Operations Center, Ministry of Health, said the initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to maintain the security, health and safety of the country’s citizens and residents as well as promote a healthy lifestyle among members of the UAE society.
He added: “The campaign involved the Ministry providing free medical examinations - including blood pressure check and diabetes and weight monitoring - for pilgrims arriving in the airports as well as offering them helpful tips especially regarding good nutrition and hygiene to prevent infectious diseases during the Hajj season. Our team of doctors deployed in the airports sought to give the pilgrims full support even while they are in Mecca and Medina.”
The Ministry of Health has dispatched a team of 35 people, alongside its current group deployed in Mecca and Medina, to provide emergency health and medical services as well as conduct field visits to help pilgrims during the Hajj season. The electronic integration of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Ministry of Health and doctor’s campaigns helped in facilitating faster issuance of licenses for the pilgrimage.
