This date has a special Islamic significance: it marks the "Great Battle of Badr" which took place in 624 CE. Nurses are highly respected in Islamic history since Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, entrusted the mission of nursing and treating the wounded in battles to women like Rufayda Al-Aslamia and Nusaybah bint Ka'ab.
