
H.E. Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), stressed the UAE’s efforts to combat diabetes embodies the wise leadership’s vision of building a resilient and sustainable healthcare system that improves quality of life for all members of society.
Al Olama added that prevention, awareness and early detection efforts are closely integrated with advanced scientific research to meet the national targets for reducing cases, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the UAE Centennial 2071 objectives seeking to build a healthy and prosperous society.
Comprehensive national programmes
In a statement marking World Diabetes Day, observed annually on 14 November, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama said that the Ministry has embraced this year’s World Health Organization (WHO) theme, “Diabetes Across the Life Course,” through comprehensive national programmes that extend health services across all stages of life.
He noted that the Ministry’s efforts are aligned with the WHO’s five global diabetes service coverage targets for 2030 and the National Nutrition Strategy 2030, reinforcing the sustainability of the healthcare system and reaffirming the UAE’s leading role in leveraging innovation to enhance services and advance public health standards.
Efforts to reduce disease
H.E. Dr. Al Olama emphasised that the Ministry will continue to promote community awareness and healthy lifestyles while encouraging preventive measures before disease onset. The Ministry will also collaborate and coordinate with public and private partners to reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and expand scientific research aimed at improving diagnosis, screening and modern treatments. He explained that MoHAP is committed to utilising artificial intelligence and advanced technologies as sustainable tools to upgrade health services, supporting the UAE’s leadership in improving quality of life.
