H.E. Dr. Al Olama: UAE marks World Organ Donation Day, showcasing progress in public awareness and legislative development

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), has stated that organ donation is a noble humanitarian act that embodies the highest values of solidarity and compassion in advanced and compassionate societies. It offers renewed hope to patients whose lives depend on transplantation and brings comfort to their families.

H.E. Dr. Al Olama affirmed that the UAE attaches great importance to organ donation, embedding it as a fundamental principle in its vision to enhance quality of life and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. This priority, he said, reflects the leadership’s commitment to placing people’s health and wellbeing at the forefront, positioning the UAE as a global model for innovation and sustainability in healthcare.

‘Hayat’ achievements

In a statement on World Organ Donation Day, observed annually on 13 August, H.E. Dr. Al Olama said thanks to the country’s forward-looking vision and the combined efforts of all healthcare institution, the National Program for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues, ‘Hayat’ has made significant achievements.  He noted that the program has seen strong growth in donor registrations, public awareness of organ donation, and coordination between public and private sectors.

Hayat has also adopted advanced digital solutions and artificial intelligence to ensure transparency and efficiency at every stage of the donation and transplantation process. These accomplishments, he added, have secured the UAE’s leadership in the Gulf region in organ donation and transplantation thanks to the sustained investment in public awareness as well as legislative and regulatory development.

Enhancing the donation system

H.E. Dr. Al Olama expressed his appreciation to all donors and families who, through acts of generosity and selflessness, have offered others a renewed chance at life. He emphasised that MoHAP will spare no effort to raise public awareness and strengthen the national organ donation framework, contributing to a sustainable and healthy future in line with the ‘Year of Community’ goals and ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.
