Ministry of Health and Prevention launches e etmenan smart app to facilitate in prevention of non-communicable diseases
The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) held a press conference to officially announce the launch of the e etmenan smart application in cooperation with the Belgian company, Science Tribune. The app was developed to facilitate in the prevention of non-communicable diseases, and launched in the presence of Dr. Hussein Abdel-Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry's Health & Prevention Assistant Sector - Health Centers and Clinics and Dr. Fadila Sharif, Director of the Health Education and Promotion and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in the UAE.
Dr. Hussein Al Rand confirmed that the launch of e etmenan falls in line with the Ministry's efforts to develop the national strategy to combat non-communicable diseases over the next five years (2017 – 2021). The app supports the Ministry's framework which aims to promote healthy lifestyles choices among the people of the UAE and to curb related diseases such as heart diseases and blood vessels, diabetes, cancer and afflictions of the respiratory system, and falls in line with the strategic objective of the National Agenda through the UAE Vision 2021 to apply a health system based on the highest international standards.
H.E mentioned that the launch of the e etmenan smart app represents a qualitative addition in the existing roster of services designed to provide better health care assistance to the citizens and residents of the country, in accordance with the best international practices. He said, "We are pleased to work with the Science Tribune Belgian company in the development of the e etmenan smart app which is designed to facilitate in the prevention of non-communicable disease. This falls in line with the Ministry's vision to cultivate a sustainable healthy environment through relevant programs and effective and local and international partnerships."
During the conference, Dr. Fadila Sharif made a presentation of the e etmenan smart app by applying its features to individuals, who are 18 and above, and assessing their health status and potential risks as well as its ability to determine the appropriate prevention program by encouraging individuals to fill out an electronic questionnaire via their smartphone, computer or through accredited health centers. She highlighted the app's ability to identify the disease at an early stage, allowing it to be treated in a more effective and cost effective manner, and the app's classification feature which categorizes patients into groups and provide optimal treatment options.
The press conference included a summary of the provisions of Fecotest, a recently developed medical accurate device. As the first of its kind, Fecotest was designed for the early detection of colon cancer through a safe and simple home test, and is considered vital in awareness campaigns against colon cancer.
