Ministry of Health encourages Innovation in Pharmaceutical Sector
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Ministry of Health during the announcement of strategic partnership between the Ministry of Health and Sanofi Aventis and Global Pharma in Dubai Investment Park, Dr. Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing, stated that such a partnership opens the field towards the global industries of innovative drugs and medical equipments in the UAE. The Ministry of Health continues to give support to the private sector as a regulator of the pharmaceutical industry, its infrastructure and modern techniques that would serve investment in the pharmaceutical sector. The private sector is seeking for producing its innovative drugs in the UAE thanks to the support of the wise leadership and encouragement of investment in the health sector generally and pharmaceutical field specifically.
The strategic partnership was attended by Dr. Salem Abdul Rahman Al Darmaki, Advisor to the UAE Minister of Health and Dr. Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing and Chairman of the pharmaceutical licensing committee in the Ministry of Health.
The pharmaceutical industry in the Emirates is a global brand that is supported the world's largest companies: The Ministry of Health assures the importance of such partnerships. In less than 12 months, the Ministry of Health signed 3 strategic partnerships with UAE pharmaceutical drug industries that would support of the role of the pharmaceutical field in the UAE to produce similar and innovative drugs. Such partnerships will enable the ministry to the UAE to enter the global drugs markets efficiently.
900 pharmaceutical product in the UAE: Dr. Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Policies and Licensing, emphasized that there are 15 pharmaceutical licensed factories in the UAE, of which, 900 pharmaceutical items have been produced while 7 produce medical equipments and products.
30 pharmaceutical drug by 2020: Dr. Amin Al Amiri added that the ministry received applications to establish 15 additional factories and it is expected that the production line will be developed and improved by 2020. There is a strong indication that the pharmaceutical market in the UAE will enter the pharmaceutical and innovative trend to compete with international competitive health sector companies.
