Ministry of Health examines latest research on genetic diseases during visit to France
UAE - September 27, 2015 - A high-profile delegation from the UAE Ministry of Health headed by Undersecretary Dr. Mohamed Salim Al Olama recently visited France to develop and enhance the cooperation between the two countries in the medical field. The visit comes at a time when the sector’s rapid progress has resulted in the need to keep abreast of the latest global developments through strong and constant communications among major states.
The Ministry of Health aims to closely coordinate with key international health authorities as well as keep up with the latest developments on best global health and management practices through its global visits. These goals are aligned with the Ministry’s objectives of raising the quality of health services in the UAE, promoting excellence in the medical field, and increasing the number of healthcare providers to improve the country’s National Health Index and meet the public’s growing needs. The recent visit to France complements the Ministry’s efforts to boost the wise leaders’ vision of an enhanced UAE health sector and improved health of individuals and society.
The move also forms part of the UAE’s goal of establishing cooperative frameworks and exchanging expertise with other countries to make the states preventive, curative and health services at par with international standards and specifications. The visit was also in line with the Ministry’s mission of promoting the health of individuals and society through its comprehensive and distinctive services delivered in a sustainable healthy environment.
During their meeting, the delegates from the UAE and France agreed to open up new prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation in various aspects of the medical field. The UAE officials also learned about France’s distinctive services in the field of research and genetic diseases as well as its future outlook on diagnosing and treating patients with the blood disorders thalassemia and sickle cell anemia.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health and the Imagine Institute at Necker Hospital in Paris agreed to future potential collaborations such as bringing UAE patients to France for diagnosis and treatment and sending doctors and specialists from the Institute to the Emirates to train their local counterparts.
The Ministry’s delegation included Dr. Issa Ahmad Al Mansouri, Director of the Undersecretary Office and Director of the International Health Relations; Dr. Mahmoud Taleb, Secretary General of Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Award; and Dr. Jamal Al Mutawa, Director of Community Health and Surveillance Department of Health Authority - Abu Dhabi.
