The Ministry of Health’s Laboratory and Blood Bank Department recently hosted a visiting team of experts from the World Health Organization that facilitated a special training session for technical and administrative teams assigned at the Ministry’s various laboratories and blood banks. The four-day workshop, which saw the attendance of 30 participants coming from different hospitals and centres, aimed at improving the performance and quality management of local laboratory facilities.

Three experts from the World Health Organization in Geneva and the World Health Organization Middle Eastern Regional Office participated in the workshop. The sessions included a practical and training course in the laboratory quality.

Dr. Najat Mohamed Rashid, Director, Federal Medical Laboratories, and Dr Mai Yasin Mohammed, Medical Manager, Sharjah Blood Bank and Research also participated in the workshop and gave lectures on the laboratory safety and quality system, which is based on the international standards of laboratories.

The course falls in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan covering the registration of all UAE-based hospitals and health centres and its implementation of best world practices to offer high quality world class services.
