MOH launches Innovation laboratories and food scanner

H.E. Dr. Yousef Al Serkal Assistant, Undersecretary for the Hospitals Sector, Ministry of Health (MoH), recently inaugurated the ‘Innovation Laboratories’ at the MOH office as part of a series of initiatives developed for UAE Innovation Week. The launch featured interactive training workshops with strong staff participation in an effort to develop tools, enhance innovation, and establish a health care system at par with the best international standards. This initiative reflects the country’s pursuit of excellence in leadership and its shift towards a proactive and smart government that enhances the well-being of citizens.
The workshops tackled patient safety, financial efficiency and operations improvement and discussed the necessary components for a healthy lifestyle. The workshop proved to be fruitful, with dynamic discussions resulting in 300 ideas, the practical feasibility of which will be assessed and developed following the approval of relevant authorities.
The innovative incubator and smart ambulance can assess the pathological data of patients through their biological imprints following an analysis of their database records. This will greatly help medical staff in conducting the appropriate first-aid procedure in cases of stroke, angina and diabetes. It will also serve as center for infection control in hospitals to examine patients through intelligent portals, similar to how airports conduct full tests to track the infection before placing patience in isolation rooms.
‘Beat the Road’ is a global program launched in the UK by Intelligent Health to encourage the community to adopt healthy lifestyles and inspire individuals to pursue physical activities such as walking, cycling, and other exercises. The program also encourages members of the community, including children, to walk through the infrared pass card to gain points which will entitle them to corresponding prizes.
The Health Education and Promotion Department developed a barcode reader application which allows mobile phone cameras to detect the barcode on food products. The basic objective of the application is to provide an effective way for ordinary people to learn more about the nutritional content of the food they are purchasing by displaying the energy, carbohydrate and fat contents per 100 grams. This is part of the Ministry’s efforts to promote awareness among members of the community and raise the level of public health
