The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has joined the global community in commemorating World Health Day 2025, reaffirming its commitment to improving maternal and newborn health as part of its national healthcare strategy.
The Ministry stressed that commemorating this occasion is part of its ongoing efforts to develop a sustainable and inclusive health system and enhance the quality of life across all segments of society.
Announced by the World Health Organisation, this year’s theme, “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”, is meant to highlight the importance of strengthening healthcare systems for women and children—particularly during pregnancy, childbirth, and early life.
Awareness Activities
To mark the occasion and in collaboration with key partners and healthcare institutions, the ministry organized a series of public awareness campaigns and events to educate families about healthy lifestyles and preventive care.
These activities were tailored to support the WHO’s objectives, highlight challenges facing women and children during pregnancy and childbirth and promote solutions that reduce preventable deaths through improved services and expanded access to high-quality healthcare information.
Supporting maternal and neonatal health
MoHAP noted that this year’s World Health Day provides an ideal opportunity to boost community awareness about the need to support maternal and neonatal health from the earliest stages.
The UAE has long been committed to promoting the health of women and children through comprehensive national programmes covering all stages of maternal and child health — before, during, and after pregnancy, as well as during childbirth.
In addition, the national child health and newborn screening programmes help detect and intervene early for a variety of genetic diseases, ensuring a healthier future for the nation’s younger generations.
The ministry also prioritises early screening services, prenatal and postnatal care, and other important health programmes such as school health and adolescent health initiatives. Through sustainable awareness campaigns and active community participation, these programmes reinforce vital health concepts related to maternal and newborn health.
In addition, MoHAP attaches particular attention to national initiatives aimed at improving maternal health, enhancing prevention efforts, and ensuring a robust healthcare workforce that is equipped to provide the best care to women and newborns. Furthermore, the ministry is accelerating its efforts to create an environment enabling healthcare professionals to perform their critical roles effectively.
Global Best Practices
His Excellency Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, emphasised that the Ministry of Health and Prevention is committed to adopting the highest international standards in maternal and neonatal healthcare by utilising advanced capabilities in line with guidelines from the World Health Organisation and UNICEF.
These efforts, Al Rand noted, contribute directly to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and align with the UAE Centennial 2071, ensuring future generations are equipped with the highest standards of health and readiness to support a sustainable, knowledge-driven nation.
His Excellency added, “Thanks to the directives of our wise leadership, the UAE government has made the health of mothers and children a top priority, embedding it at the core of its development policies.
The UAE firmly believes that investing in their well-being is an investment in the nation’s future. Consequently, the ministry is leading national efforts to promote the public health of mothers and newborns, ensuring access to preventive and integrated care through close collaboration with our strategic partners across the country.
