The Ministry of Health (MoH) Training and Development Center in Sharjah recently organized an interactive workshop on the development of a standardized guide for clinical training programs for physicians assigned to medical areas under the Ministry’s administration. The workshop was held from November 4 to 5, 2015 and was attended by a number of doctors from the Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatric, Internal Medicine, General Surgery and Emergency Departments of the respective hospitals under the Ministry.

The standardized protocol features a comprehensive overview of training and regulations that special departments must adopt in training their doctors. It also includes an integrated assessment system that will be used to review doctors during the training period if they are able to follow protocol. This ensures that there is a clear graded structure that will lead to measurable results which can be compared to established standards and indicators. This was developed to ensure that the process is in accordance with the best global health practices and that the medical staff of local hospitals operate in a manner following the stipulations of the excellence program.

Mr. Saqr Humairi, Director of the Sharjah MOH Training and Development Center, said: “The workshop focused on introducing interns to the administrative and training systems. The protocol and accompanying manual was developed according to the latest modern practices and features several simulations of emergency situations that medical staff of local hospitals might face in the future, for them to practice the proper diagnosis and procedures on.”

The interactive workshop featured key discussions and Power Point presentations organized by the training team led by Prof. Matiro Azomkaa, Academic Advisor in the Education Sector of Dubai Healthcare City. The workshop was opened by Dr. Khalil Kaid, training and development expert, Dr. Linda Ghannam, and other key doctors, interns and residents.

The workshop covered the basics of the training program, followed by an assessment of the attendees. The organizers then discussed the results with HR departments to discuss potential employment and in order to clarify the necessary steps each participating doctor must take to complete recruitment procedures.

The MOH Training and Development Center also collaborates with the Commission for Health Specialties which includes all health care representatives. This Committee coordinates with the training programs’ implementing bodies including the UAE Arab Board with the General Secretariat of the Arab Council for Health Specialties on training registration and exam follow up. The Committee will also be hosting some of the Arab Board exams.
