According to Islamic Sharia, organ donation saves lives and the fatwas of the majority of jurists indicate that the donation is permissible.

Organ donation process & why it is important to talk to your family

Organ donors family will be contacted right away after his / hers passing. If you are willing donate it is important to communicate with your family about your decision. Though you have given your consent it is up-to your family if they have to ful fill your will.

Who can donate and what organs can be donated

Everyone who holds an Emirates ID and is 18 years old or over can become an organ donor. Living donors can donate a kidney and part of a liver to relatives up to the fourth degree, and brain-dead donors can save up to 8 lives by donating their hearts, livers, kidneys, lungs, and pancreas.

More about National Centre for Regulating Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue

The National Center to regulate Human Organs and Tissues Transplantation was established in September 2020 by the UAE government, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (UAE  recognises that many different forms of disability affect access to the web or mobile. As part of our efforts to reach people with limited mobility and accessibility, we have designed the MOHAP), with the aim of unifying the national efforts in the field of transplantation of human organs and tissues, and regulating and coordinating organ transplant surgeries across the country.

The center also seeks to:

  • implement a prevention and treatment program for organ failure and registration of cases
  • develop procedures for regulating transplantation of human organs and tissues
  • organize the preservation and distribution of organs
  • coordinate with health authorities to train and develop qualifications for practitioners in the field
  • encourage the practice of organ and tissue transplantation
